Standard Response Protocol

The district subscribes to the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol to provide consistent and clear actions to take in the event of an incident. Please take a few minutes every week to review these actions with your children to help eliminate any uncertainty should the need arise:

SECURE
Used when there is a concern outside the building.

  • All exterior doors will be secured.
  • Teachers will continue instruction.
  • Students will continue their normal school-day activities.
  • Bells will sound to signal class changes.
  • Everyone will remain inside the building.
  • Any classes or activities outside will immediately return indoors.
  • An announcement will be made to "Resume Normal Operations" when the situation has been resolved.

HOLD
Used when there is a non-threatening concern inside the building.

  • Lock your classroom door.
  • Keep all students inside the room.
  • Continue instruction.
  • Ignore bells.
  • An announcement will be made to "Resume Normal Operations" when the situation has been resolved.

LOCKDOWN
Used when there is an armed intruder or active threat inside the building.

  • Follow the Run, Hide, Fight protocol.
  • If it is safe to escape, do so immediately.
  • If you cannot escape, hide and barricade inside a secure location.
  • If confronted by an immediate threat, disrupt and defend as necessary.

EVACUATE
Used when there is a need to move students and staff to a different location.

  • Immediately evacuate the classroom or area.
  • Calmly proceed to the nearest designated exit.
  • Stay off parking driving paths in the parking lot.
  • Follow staff directions and report to the designated evacuation area.
  • Wait for the “ALL CLEAR” before reentering the building.


SHELTER (Tornado)
Used for weather or environmental hazards requiring a specific safety response.

  • Calmly move to the nearest interior hallway away from windows.
  • Stand facing the lockers or interior wall.
  • If on the second floor, calmly move to the first floor.
  • Remain in place until instructed to "Resume Normal Operations.”
